Scenario. Daniel is a company director who pays himself a reasonable monthly salary under PAYE. At the end of each accounting period he pays himself a dividend from company profits, the amount of which depends on how much the company has earned! Each January he pays any higher rate tax on the dividend under self-assessment. It's a simple system and he always calculates how much tax will be due well before the end of the year.
